Haiku

Filed under: Life in general, poetry — sanjubaba @ 9:59 pm

So, I decided to try my hand at Haiku with no regard to technique…

Time:

When the sand trickles down

My mind rushes

Like a little fish

Chased by a large shark

Angle:

An arching curve

lying flat on the ground

how often ignored

Poor, directionless feet

Solitude

The sun shines carefully

Through a canopy of trees

A lonely leaf hangs

on the bare branches

Reality

A spring drizzle

brightens up the day

but the rain

brings out the shit

Power

A teacher in class

has all the power

over the students

only when they care

  1. Interesting haikus you have there. I have not written poetry in ages it seems. It’s always nice to use it as a creative outlet. ;)

  2. Forgive me if I sound stupid here (and I know you said with no regard to technique) but how are they still haiku’s without the syllable counting? I like to learn new things. :)

Anyway, I think Angle is my favorite of those! :)

  3. Angle is my favorite…it sounds like me! But I agree with Mimi, isn’t it just a short verse if you don’t count syllables? I thought that was the entire point of haikus.

  4. Wow, they’re really great! Solitude and Power are my favourites.

  6. These are really really good, but I have to say, the last one is the best.

  7. Slightly off subject, but your blog entry made me remember Writers’ Club at my school. I am very ready for school to start so I can get to discussing writing.

I agree with that haiku, though it may be more applicable to substitute teachers.

  8. Wow, those are very interesting haikus you’ve got there! It’s been a long time since I’ve written one.

The angle is my favorite :D

  10. I personally liked Reality the best.

Don’t think I have written any form of Haiku since that one English class my senior year.

  12. If there’s anything I can’t write, it’ll be poetry in all its form. Nice works though. I like “Solitude.”

  14. My favourite are the first two, time and angles. Angles are an interesting thing to do any sort of poem on.

  15. I love all of them and Power has to be my favorite. It really is true, no matter how good or bad a teacher is.

  16. I agree that I don’t think they’re considered haikus without regard to syllable count/line number. A haiku would be 3 lines with syllables 5,7,5.

Anyway, my favorite is also Angle.
